Black Caps record-breaker
His 137 against Pakistan in Dunedin became New Zealand's highest T20I score, his 101 took the Unicorns to the 2024 MLC final, and he then chose franchise cricket over a central contract.
Allen hit 137 off 62 balls with 16 sixes in Dunedin, the highest T20I score by a New Zealand man (past Brendon McCullum) and joint-most sixes in an innings. New Zealand made 224/7 and won by 45 runs; he was Player of the Series as they won 4-1.
Allen hit 101 off 53 balls, the Unicorns' first MLC century, as they defended 200/6 to beat Texas Super Kings by 10 runs in the Challenger and reach the final. He was Player of the Match; they lost the final to Washington Freedom on 28 July.
In August 2024 Allen declined a New Zealand Cricket central contract to pursue franchise opportunities around the world.

Allen was 100 not out off 33 balls at Eden Gardens, the fastest T20 World Cup century and the first in a World Cup knockout. New Zealand chased South Africa's 169/8 in 12.5 overs, won by nine wickets and reached the final.
Allen made 100 not out off 47 balls as Kolkata Knight Riders chased 143 in 14.2 overs and beat Delhi Capitals by eight wickets at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. It was his first IPL century and he was Player of the Match.
Allen hit 45 off 18 balls at Oakland as the Unicorns chased 191 and won by eight wickets with 29 balls left. His opening stand with Lhuan-dre Pretorius set an MLC record powerplay of 103, and the win took San Francisco top of the table.
Allen opened in all 12 Unicorns matches, about 190 runs in total (the 11 other innings sum to 190; he fell within the first three balls of the Qualifier, when the Unicorns were 3/2). Best were 65 off 31 and Player of the Match against Seattle Orcas on 11 July, and 45 off 18 against Washington Freedom on 28 June. The Unicorns finished in the top two of the regular-season table, lost the Qualifier to LA Knight Riders by 7 runs (15 July, Oakland) and the Challenger to Washington Freedom by 7 runs (16 July, Oakland), so missed the final.
